It’s been almost a week since the start of our Christmas vacation!
I miss my kids, but who doesn’t like having a break, right? 😅
I love vacays because it gives me time to do my leisure activities such as reading and writing.
It might seem boring to you, especially if you’re an extroverted person,
but I noticed that my best time is usually whenever I’m on my desk, reading and writing about self-improvement.
Luckily, my husband is as interested as I am about it.
Anyway, the other day, my hubby shared one of the things he learned from an article he read, and it says, “Everyone must try having a ‘depth year’.
Let me rephrase how Mart explained what it means.
A depth year is a time dedicated to reading books you’ve read before, developing skills you already have, instead of searching for new things to study and try.
New Year hasn’t started yet, but I already wanted to commence my depth year. Hehe!
So I looked at my collection of ebook downloads and chose what to reread.
Apparently, I’ve been reading Stephen Covey’s book, “7 Habits of Highly Effective People” for the second time, and it blew my mind!
It has deepened my understanding and increased my motivation to apply what I’ve learned from it.
I’m not yet even finished with it, but it just inspired me to write.
It has also expanded my perspective.
Here’s one of my favorite quotations from the book:
Habits are like a cable. We weave a strand of it everyday and soon it cannot be broken.
That statement made me rethink on where I usually spend my time and energy (which I couldn’t remember doing the first time I read it).
Is it on procrastination? Impatience? Criticalness? Rigidity?
Or is it on the values such as loving and living wholeheartedly? Gratitude? Wisdom? Creativity? Joy?
I realized that habits are not just activities.
Those could be mindsets.
Stephen Covey also emphasized the significance of self-awareness and the willingness to take full responsibility over our choices.
He explained how important it is to decide which habits to break and make, because it’s what builds our character, which we need to achieve abundance and happiness in all areas of life.
We have the freedom to choose every moment of our lives, so we couldn’t really say we’re just “victims” of any situation.
We could exercise this freedom and we’ll be surprised how it expands each time we use it.
I didn’t fully know these until I read S. Covey’s book, and it’s unearthing myriad of useful insights.
I can’t wait to reread the other parts!
Just comment or send me a message if you want a copy!
I’ll send it as a gift. 😊
Happy holidays and may we all go for continuous learning and growth!
